Doug is a local businessman and served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 70th District from 2006 to 2012 and the 74th District from 2012 to 2014.

Doug was appointed by Governor Rick Scott to the Sarasota-Manatee Airport Authority, where he serves as secretary. He also serves as a board member for the Florida Center for Early Childhood. Doug received a degree in political science from Middle Tennessee State University in 1990.
